Here’s my story: born/ raised in sw Ohio, both of parents were small business owners  and must have inherited my love for  small business from them. My father Jim saylor, both invested in RE and sold it. My mother Ann Saylor , kept the books in addition to running a home decorative business (HODA) all while raising 4 boys. It was a family affair in that we all became willing/ unwilling participants in both businesses. What a priceless education…  Growing up in the 60’s,/70’s every kid seemed to have some kind of work , whether it was mowing lawns to paper delivery. My first business outside of chores was the latter at age 11 delivering advertising circulars across 3 neighborhoods.  At 13 , while working weekends at a drivethru in Fairfield OH, I started carrying the Hamilton Journal news 7 days a week to 66 Daily customers.. I rode my bike a mile to/back from the route everyday after school, walked the delivery , always stopping at the local store to get my sugar fix. I always did the paper’s sales promotion giveaways to grow my customer base and after 3 years was at 100 daily homes/businesses . I provided extra service by throwing their paper onto their porch or inside their storm door when it was raining. I made a game of catching the paper on the closing device so that they would see their paper first thing when they got home.   A little over 2 years later I was graciously awarded carrier of year and got my picture in the very paper I delivered. My goal was saving enough money to buy my first car, and at 15.5, purchased a 1967 RS Camaro from a private owner in my home town for 1200$ in 1977. That’s roughly equivalent to $6k in Todays dollars.  With enough left over for my first insurance payment. Home building was booming in the 70’s and I started as a carpenters helper ( code for grunt labor) the summer I was 16. In addition to getting a great tan, I was acquiring the skill set I needed to start my first company at 21 in remodeling and siding with a high school friend. At 23 in 1983,  having been born an extrovert and an avid reader, was recruited into the financial Services industry by not 1, but by 2 different companies.one was snoopy’s Metropolitan Life and the other was a childhood friends father  that owned a successful retirement planning firm.  I cut my teeth in the industry for 1.5 years with Snoopy ( he was the advertising mascot starting the same year I did) and switched to the small retirement planning firm where I remained for the next 10 years before the company was split up in a internal hostile takeover. I remained in the newly formed company for the next few years before spinning off with a few independent advisors and then ultimately launching my own Fp/ wealth management firm 27 years ago focused on individuals, families and small businesses solve their financial challenges through planning, investing and coordinating tax planning, insurance/risk management and estate planning with other handpicked professionals.I launched RZBC this year after having received my CEPA certification from EPI in 2020.  I continue today as CEO/president of RSF Inc as I endeavor to help coach other good, smart business owners that desire their companies and life work to be great.
